Why did Americans enter the First World War ?
The unrestricted submarine war confirms the german chancellor's worst fears. On march 19th 1917, three american merchants ships are sunk in the Atlantic. This event allows the US president, Woodrow Wilson, to act. He needs an excuse to bring America into the war. The United States lend to France and United Kingdom two billions dollars and this debt will never be repaid if Germany wins the war with this unrestricted submarine warfare. But America has profited from his neutrality: after a long economic crisis, US manufactory is florishing thanks to the exportations of canned goods, cotton, ore, explosives for the war industry. America has become powerfull and Wilson wants to play a leading role in the world that will emerge from the war.
