June 2nd, 1953 : a special day for the British
Her Majesty the Queen’s coronation occurred on 2 June 1953, at Westminster Abbey in London, United Kingdom. Memories of the coronation are still vivid amongst the population. Children were let off school, tables were setup in the street, and grandmothers baked cakes. Entire neighbourhoods had tea out in the street to celebrate her Majesty’s coronation. Others recall the event sitting at home in front of a black and white television set alongside their relatives. The British have a very distinct memory of where they were and what they were doing at the moment of the Queen’s coronation.
